Watsons Bay ferry is packed — Plan B
Fine-weekend Watsons Bay queues and a full Nielsen or Bradleys lot are a Plan B moment, not a reason to invent parking or cut the last comfortable sailing.

Decision first: if the Watsons Bay ferry is standing-room and the village is a queue, do not add South Head, Nielsen and Bradleys to “make the wait worth it.” Protect a return sailing and pick one smaller win — or switch precincts. A calm one-stop day still counts.
This is not a live timetable. Transport for NSW owns ferry times. NSW National Parks owns park alerts, vehicle fees and island access. Planning from official pages — not a field diary.
If the ferry is already ugly at Circular Quay

Stay on the sailing you can actually board, or wait for the next one — do not sprint to a later “faster” plan that cuts your return. Once you are on the water, the job is South Head or nothing. Hornby plus one lookout is enough.
Cruise-ship days and fine Saturdays do this every week. The failure is treating a packed boat as proof you need a bigger itinerary.
If Watsons Bay is crushed when you land

Toilets, water, screenshot the return, walk the formed heritage path, stay behind barriers, walk back with buffer. Skip side spurs. Skip “we’ll just see Nielsen after.” Village lunch is optional; the sailing is not.
If the group is already cooked at the wharf, do not start the headland. Coffee and the next ferry home is a legal day.
If the car park is the problem

Nielsen and Bradleys lots fill. A full lot is Plan B: bus, ferry, or a different precinct — not a nature strip. Vehicle fees and operators still apply when you do find a space; official visitor-info and the sign at that lot win.
Driving to North Head because Nielsen was full is how you inherit Scenic Drive gate times and last-mile pain. That is a new product, not a Plan B.
What not to invent
Do not invent a Goat Island hop (closed to July 2027). Do not invent a regular-ferry landing on Shark or Clark. Do not invent illegal parking. Official vs the sign: NPWS alerts and Transport for NSW are the live sources. This page is a decision tree only.

Should I wait for the next Watsons Bay ferry?
Yes if waiting still protects a comfortable return. No if waiting eats the last sailing you will accept — then shrink the headland or go home.
Is Manly a good Plan B when Watsons Bay is packed?
Only if North Head was already the plan and you have last-mile time. It is not a five-minute substitute for South Head.
